I had some trouble getting Bluetooth to work in Parallels Desktop 7 (running OS X 10.7 Lion as host OS and Windows 7 64-bit as guest OS) on a MacBook Pro mid-2010. Steps reported on the internet worked somewhat, but I got stuck at the point where I actually had to run the AppleBluetoothInstaller.exe as final step. It seems that Apple needs to update their package in order to make this work. Here’s what I did to make it work without waiting for Apple to get moving.
1) Run the Bootcamp Assistant to download the latest Windows Support Software, and write it to a FAT (MSDOS) formatted USB disk.
2) In Parallels, run from the USB disk \WindowsSupport\Drivers\Apple\x64\AppleBluetoothInstaller64.exe.
3) From the Paralles top menu, activate Devices > USB > Apple Bluetooth USB Host Controller. Windows will complain it did not have the necessary drivers to make stuff work.
4) Click Device and Printers in the Windows menu (what was formerly the Start menu).
5) Bluetooth USB Host Controller should be mentioned below, but not working. Right-click it, and select Properties. Then go to the Hardware tab, click Properties again, go to Details and from the Property top down list select Hardware Ids. Write down or copy the shortest line. Mine was:
USB\VID_05AC&PID_8218
6) Next, download and install WinRAR.
7) In Explorer, go to your USB stick again, and right-click \WindowsSupport\Drivers\Apple\x64\AppleBluetoothInstaller64.exe, select Extract files… Remember where you put them (for instance, on a folder on the desktop, it’s just temporary).
8 ) Go to the extracted files, and double-click AppleBT64.inf to edit it. Change:
; for Windows 7 only [Apple.NTamd64.6.1] ; No action ; OS will load in-box driver.
into :
; for Windows 7 only [Apple.NTamd64.6.1] Apple Built-in Bluetooth=AppleBt, USB\VID_05ac&PID_8218
Where the USB\VID… part is the line you copied as hardware id in step 5. Save the file.
9) Go back to Devices and Printers, right-click Bluetooth USB Host Controller, click Properties, go to the Hardware tab, click Properties, go to the Driver tab, click Update Driver…, select Browse my computer for driver software, Browse to the location of where you extracted the files in Step 7, and click Next. Windows might complain that the manufacturer is unknown. That’s okay, just go on.
10) You’re done, it should work now. It did for me.
